Rugby: The Mighty Lions out-roared in Petersfield

Thanks to Nolan for sharing the latest report from Ventnor RFC. Ed

Petersfield II 21 – 5 Ventnor II
The day was started off by an hour wait for scrum half Ryan Cooper who instantly was awarded the AJ Wells Black Dog Award.

As the sun set (well… almost) the game kicked off and Ventnor got off to a terrific start with a clean catch from the kick off and the ball working its way to Tom Engelgardt to score on the wing. A promising start and one that was backed up by a superb defence that really didn’t yield much against a hard-running Petersfield.

As the game went on, Petersfield could only gain points from kicked penalties, and the half ended 9-5 to the home team. A strong half time talk kept up the great form but this didn’t translate into anymore points. Petersfield ran away with two more tries including one in the final play of the game.

A difficult but enjoyable game that saw a bit of experimentation that is crucial for the development of the squad.

Man of the Match: Warren Riches who moved from his normal position at full back to make his debut in the forwards at the age of 46.
Squad: Price, Williams, Savill, Jackson, Morley, Stemmet, Riches, Magnursson, Cooper, Cripps, Harris, Simpson, Blake, Engelgardt, Bolton. Subs – Ross, Dovale, Gisborn, Buttle.
