Executive member resigned after not being consulted on staff restructure paper

Following our report yesterday about the resignation from the Executive of Cllr Gordon Kendall, he confirmed his position to OnTheWight last night.

Gordon KendallAs Executive member for HR and Organisational Change, Cllr Kendall was unhappy that he had not bee consulted on a paper on radial senior staff restructure prior to Monday’s Employment Committee.

He told OnTheWight,

“Yes I am quitting the Executive with responsibility for Organisational Change, after a report went out on major organisational change without seeking any input from me and containing important elements in the recommendations with which I did not agree.

“This left me with no alternative but to vote against it and consequently resign.”

Leader: “Very disappointed that Gordon has chosen to resign”
Leader of the council, Cllr Jonathan Bacon said this morning,

“Due to a busy diary, including my attendance at the Visit Isle of Wight Conference this morning, I have not had a chance to speak to Gordon yet but I have received his e.mail resigning from the Executive.

“I am very disappointed that Gordon has chosen to resign as I believe that his concerns were addressed by the Employment Committee in their discussions and in the decision reached. I am also disappointed because the independent executive allows members to publicly disagree with proposals as this promotes healthy discussion and decision making.

Remaining an Island Independent
Cllr Bacon went on to say,

“Conversely, for the same reason, I am glad that Gordon has decided to remain as a member of the Independent Group as he has a wealth of experience which benefits group discussion and decision making.”
