Ryde harriers night time race

Ryde Harriers host all-Island running club meet

Thanks to Tom for this latest report from the Ryde Harriers. Ed

A specially designed course of twenty minutes out-and-back saw the horde of fluorescent, lycra-clad runners confusing the diners on Union Street by snaking up and then back down Ryde’s main drag.

The latest club night event saw 33 runners taking on the 5km handicap.

With handicaps based on previous best performance, this race can be painful for those out of top shape whilst improvers can see a marked difference.

In the women’s race the recently joined Lucy Diamond showed her continuing improvement as she finished three minutes ahead of Clayre Brown in second.

In the men’s race Sam Cleare romped home but as he was running as a guest the points went to Simon Joy with Trevor McAllister in second place.
