Be aware of scam calls about council tax say Trading Standards

This in from the council, in their own words. Ed

A phone call is received from a withheld number, and the caller says they are from the council and that a mistake had been made with the council tax band of the property, before asking how the resident pays their council tax which is often by direct debit.

They then say that if they could take the person’s bank details and a one off payment of £55 they will get a month off their direct debit and would likely get several thousand pounds more back in future.

This is a scam and these phone calls are not from the Isle of Wight Council. If you receive a phone call like this, do not give out your bank details and hang up the call.
