Letter: Concerns that housing development could increase risk of flooding

We always welcome a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers – unsurprisingly they don’t always reflect the views of this publication. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch and of course, your considered comments are welcome below.

This from Fred Dawson, Haylands, Ryde. Ed

You might be interested to know that survey work is underway for a large housing development on farmland next to Haylands.

If such a development goes ahead it will cause significant loss of habitat, increase surface run off leading to a significant increase risk of flooding.

Traffic flow along the narrow Upton road will also increase with the associated increase risk of accidents etc.

If such a development is allowed to go ahead it should be on the basis of improved infrastructure and decreased flood risk.

The development should be shown to be carbon neutral and to have an overall environmental benefit

A planning application has yet to be put in.
