Vix Lowthion - Green party Candidate - canvassing in Newport

Immigration is not harming our NHS – it is keeping it running says Green candidate

This in from Vix Lowthion, IW Green party prospective parliamentary candidate. Ed

Green Party Parliamentary candidate, Vix Lowthion, spent last Saturday morning (28th February) alongside over 50 other residents from all across the Island, campaigning to Keep Our NHS Public. Even though it rained, hundreds of Islanders signed a petition organised by campaigning group 38 Degrees.

It calls for all MP candidates to commit to stopping privatisation, and protect funding for the health service to provide high quality care for everyone.

Immigration needed to run NHS
Vix is concerned that a handful of Islanders she met blamed the current crisis in the NHS squarely on increased immigration,

“Whilst we are seeing greater numbers of cancelled operations and some longer queuing times in A&E at St Mary’s, this is not as a direct result of immigration. The NHS completely relies on the skills and expertise of many health care professionals recruited from all across the world.

“We need immigrants to run our NHS – without them, it would collapse. Our health service is over-stretched because of the failure of our government to direct the £20 billion that immigrants have brought to our economy since 2001, and invest it in improving our public services.”

The petition is still available to sign online and is close to 400,000 signatories in total.
