David Goodall and Bob Blezzard

Sandown Independent, Bob Blezzard, confirmed as LibDem election agent (updated)

Sandown Independent councillor, Bob Blezzard, has been confirmed as the election agent for Isle of Wight Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate, David Goodall.

The former Liberal Democrat resigned from the Party following the coalition with the Conservative party in 2010 and later joined the Island Independents in 2013.

He resigned from the Island Independent group in September last year.

“Good experience”
David Goodall confirmed to OnTheWight that Bob is his agent for the 2015 election.

He said,

“I have known Bob since 1987 when I joined Wootton Bridge Parish Council as councillor and Bob was the parish clerk.

“Bob has good experience of doing the agent’s role and I am very pleased he decided to join my campaign team for this election.”

OnTheWight has attempted to contact Bob by email and phone, but he failed to respond by the time of publishing this article.

Update 14.40
Two and a half hours after publishing, Cllr Blezzard told OnTheWight,

“When I recently attended the launch of the Liberal Democrat election campaign I was asked to take on the role of legal agent given my previous experience. After giving the matter considerable thought I agreed.

“This does not in any way affect my role as a Sandown Independent councillor which will continue.

“I have no intention of being part of a Liberal Democrat group at County Hall.

“This matter requires no further explanation and I will be making no further comment.”

He confirmed he had rejoined the Liberal Democrat Party.
