Ryde Harriers - Salisbury March 2015

Ryde Harriers head to Salisbury for the Hampshire Road Race

Thanks to Tom for this latest report from the Ryde Harriers. Ed

With an undulating looped course on country lanes, the race was run in almost perfect conditions.

Ryde Harriers supplied their smallest team of the season, but it was quality over quantity, as both the first Island man and woman came from their group of three.

Tom Blackwell finished in 36th place in 1:01:07 for a new personal best, Julie King also grabbed a PB with an excellent time of 1:10:42 to cross the line as 20th woman and first vet 50 whilst Brian Warren cruised in for 1:21:59.

Tuesday club night run
The Harriers Winter Series is entering its final stages and the latest Tuesday club night run was the final five mile race of the series with thirty people finishing with times ranging from just over half an hour to just inside the hour. First across the line was Tom Blackwell in 30:34 followed by Les Cupis in 32:12.

First woman was Sarah Kavanagh who finished third overall in 32:29 which was also a new personal best for her. Justin Fitzgerald was next as the first vet 40 showing his return to fitness continues whilst there was an excellent battle for the next three places as Simon Joy just managed to hold off Luke Gardner and new Harrier Sam Cleare.

Next race
The next open race is the first of the duo of Easter Races from Ryde Harriers. The historic Newport to Ryde race takes place on Easter Saturday 4th April starting outside the council offices and finishing its multi-terrain course on Ryde High’s playing fields.

Entries are open via www.rydeharriers.co.uk along with Easter Monday’s Three Hills race.
