Lack of bookings forces Island Youth Water Activities Centre to close

We’re sure that many Islanders will join us in expressing our sadness at the closure of the Island Youth Water Activities Centre.

Many Islanders have trained in water skills at the Centre, who have been praised for their excellent work young people over the years.

A notice on the Website and Facebook Page reads,

It is with great sadness and regret that we are announcing the closure of IYWAC at the end of March 2015.

The Centre has been unable to secure enough work in the pipeline to cover its costs.

The Centre’s assets are being sold in order for IYWAC to meet its obligations to customers and suppliers.

Many comments from past customers of the Centre can be found on their Facebook Page including this from June Hockley,

She says,

“It is not an exaggeration to say that Iywac has been so much more than a place where young people learn water sports. It has helped build confidence, model valuable life skills and in some cases has changed lives.

“I am very sad today at this news. Thank you to all the staff past and present for making it happen for so many young people.”

Thanks to Michael Douse for sharing the news.
