Ofsted unhappy with school’s ‘raising achievement plan’

Following an inspection in November 2014, St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School was placed in Special Measures by Ofsted.

The Isle of Wight council subsequently challenged the rating and the school received special praise from the Minister for Schools, David Laws in February.

The latest Ofsted inspection finds the school is making reasonable progress towards the removal of special measures.

‘Raising achievement plan’ not fit for purpose
It goes on to add that although the local authority’s statement of action is fit for purpose, the school’s raising achievement plan is not.

The school has still not been given permission to appoint newly qualified teachers before the next monitoring inspection.
