Islandline trains - Filling between the new walls with material

Islandline trains back in service from Shanklin

Islandline passengers, who have for the last ten weeks had to rely on rail replacement buses, are today (Friday) in for a treat.

Following a whopping £2m investment to repair damage to stabilise the slope at Sandown damaged by the storms Christmas 2013, the service goes back into operation between Shanklin and Ryde St John’s one day ahead of schedule.

As well as repairing the damaged slope, track maintenance was also carried out, as well as replacement of signalling components, rails and sleepers.

During the works, other slips were discovered which also required attention.

Now all works are complete, the line is back in service.

Last trains to run later
Islandline say that as a result of continued positive feedback from passengers, the reintroduction of the service between Shanklin and Ryde St John’s will include an adjustment to the regular timetable.

Passengers can enjoy later trains from Shanklin and Ryde Pier Head intended to improve connections to the late night Wightlink Catamarans.

The last train from Shanklin will depart at 2238 and arrive at the Pier Head at 2300.

It will then depart Pier Head at 2315, arriving at Ryde St Johns Rd at 2320.
