Quay Arts

Exciting programme of events this Easter

This in from Quay Arts in their own words. Ed

There’s lots to do at Quay Arts this Easter! We open with our fantastic, FREE music extravaganza Kashmir Fringe on Sat 28 Mar, whilst also celebrating our Young Quay’s nostalgia exhibition in the Learning Curve Gallery, and to top it off, we’re doing something never done before… layering The West Gallery floor with sand for experimental project Sandoodle for you to draw and doodle your creations into.

Don’t forget, there’s plenty of kids activities to make and create work with our artists, and you can also get involved finding a hidden talent in jewellery making or pottery at our Jubilee Stores Studios.

Our Café and Shop teams are more than happy to welcome you to their quarters, fuelling your appetites with delicious home-cooked grub and offering inspiring arts and crafts by local and regional makers.

Our general opening times are Mon – Sat, 9am – 5pm (10am – 4pm on Good Friday and Easter Monday, closed Sundays except for special events i.e. Kashmir Fringe). We look forward to your visit!

LIVE EVENTS.…

Kashmir Fringe
Sat 28 & Sun 29 March FREE
Kashmir Fringe showcases some of the best musical talent the Isle of Wight has to offer, and runs side-by-side with Quay Arts’ Kashmir Cafe at the Isle of Wight Festival. The line-up consists of some favourite acts who have appeared at Kashmir Cafe, and our Acoustic Originals events spread over two days on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March. Kashmir Fringe is a little taste of a summer festival at the end of winter, but without the mud! The event opens at 2pm on each day, and is free to enter. Quay Arts’ bar and cafe will be providing refreshments throughout both days.

Green is for Go

Plastic Mermaids
Sat 11 April, 7pm – 10:30pm SOLD OUT
Sun 12 April, 7pm – 10:30pm TICKETS ON SALE 10am MON 23 MAR
Plastic Mermaids are a 5 piece band from the Isle of Wight who have spent most of the last year hidden away in their home studio constructing a unique style of folkedelic dream pop. Weaving together vocal harmonies and a diverse selection of instruments they create folk melodies with experimental electronic textures, that occasionally build to an epic cinematic crescendo or just as likely drift away into the soundscape.

EXHIBITIONS & OPPORTUNITIES….

Sandoodle

The West Gallery

Sandoodle aims to be fun, provocative, unifying and truly experiential. There are no rules, just turn up, take off your shoes and socks and get stuck in!

nostalgia by Young Quay
Sat 28 March – Sat 18 April
Preview: Sat 28 March 12noon, all welcome
Learning Curve Gallery
As part of their Arts Award, Young Quay have devised an exhibition based on the theme of ‘nostalgia’. They settled on the theme after exploring a variety of ideas and taking inspiration from visiting Quay Arts exhibitions ‘Figured Out’ by Jenny Clayden, ‘Under the Ivy Night Rambles’ by Ed Boxall as well as Louise Bourgeois’ exhibition ‘A Woman Without Secrets’ at Southampton City Art Gallery.

This allowed the group think about exploring ‘nostalgia’ not only through the ages, but also through its emotional content, tapping into the darker side of the subject matter. The work exhibited is created and curated by Young Quay and shows different interpretations and viewpoints of what nostalgia personally means to them. There will also be a participatory element in the exhibition for visitors to add to.
