Thoughts have been turning to the imminent start of Ryde Harriers Summer series events including the return to Fairway Athletics Track, but there is a still a little unfinished business with this season’s Winter series.

Alan Reed Trophy race
Next Tuesday it is the club 10km road championship, whilst last Tuesday saw the running of the annual Alan Reed Trophy race.

Run over a five mile course along the seafront to Seaview then looping back via the challenging hill of Gregory Avenue before a fast finish down Appley Lane.

The winners
The run is always a nominated event with the winner of the memorial trophy being the nearest runner to their stated time.

This year’s winner was Peter Jolliffe whose time of 41:14 was just six seconds slower than his stated time. Second place went to Abi Cooke who was only eight seconds inside her stated time of 40 minutes exactly. Third was Sam Cleare in another good run of 34:11, he was 19 seconds to fast for his nomination.

Next run
More details of the upcoming Summer series runs, the next open race – Brading 10km in June – and Thursday training nights are available from the new Ryde Harriers website www.rydeharriers.co.uk or just come down to a Tuesday or Thursday session for more information.
