Competition to design starting flag for Pearl Izumi cycle race

This in from the council, in their own words. Ed

Primary schools on the Isle of Wight have been invited to design a key piece of equipment that will be used to begin races at the upcoming Pearl Izumi cycling tour series.

Each school has been asked to design the start flag that will be used to begin each race.

The flag must be based on the theme ‘why cycling is good’.

Comp closes on Thursday
The competition has been organised by the Isle of Wight Council sports unit with support from Visit Isle of Wight and the event organisers. Schools have until Thursday 30 April to send in their designs to the council.

A winning design will be chosen and printed in time for the event and the successful school will get to keep the flag afterwards.

To be screen on ITV4
Some of the UK’s best cyclists will compete in the Pearl Izumi Tour Series in Ryde on 14 May. Teams include defending champions JLT Condor which is led by double Olympic medallist Ed Clancy, and the newly formed Team Wiggins, created and owned by Sir Bradley Wiggins. The event will be filmed and shown on ITV4.
