‘Time Timers’ are types of clocks that have coloured graphic faces which make it easy to see time elapsing.

The new clocks are available in the swimming pools and Tone Zone gyms at The Heights and Medina leisure centres, and also the gym at Westridge Leisure Centre. The clocks are portable so can be moved to wherever the user requires them.

The equipment has been acquired in conjunction with the council’s Short Breaks service which helps organise activities for children and young people with additional needs.

Councillor Shirley Smart, whose Executive portfolio includes leisure centres, said:

“People of all ages who have Asperger’s or Autism can have problems understanding the concept of time which is important to how a fitness session is structured for the user to get the most out of it.

“These new clocks are specifically designed to help them combat this so when they are swimming for example or running on a treadmill, they can easily see how long they have been there.

“Little things like these clocks go a long way to making a difference to those who need it.”

The clocks are available now and anyone wishing to use one should speak to a member of staff at their leisure centre.
