The amount Frank raised by running the London Marathon is enough to cover the total cost of 17 young people to join the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust on a four-day sailing trip for the first time this summer.

Frank explained what motivated him to conquer the challenge:

“Each and every one of the 26.2 miles was in honour of all the inspirational young people I have met through the Trust and in memory of those young people who are sadly no long with us. Gone, but never forgotten.”

Frank said:

“Before anyone gets carried away with my athletic prowess, I feel I should point out that with 800 metres to go I was over taken by two people in Rhino suits. Even worse, having started near and been very aware of “Puff the Magic Dragon” for the entire 26 miles I was determined not to be beaten by a bloke in a 8-foot dragon suit. With 50 metres to go, he sprinted to the line leaving me looking at his tail.”

After crossing the finish line, Frank reflected:

“Completing the marathon has been one of life’s great experiences. London offered the most amazing atmosphere, which got me through the hard miles. Thank you to my family, friends and everyone who sponsored and supported me over the last few months. I have been blown away by their generosity and messages of encouragement.”

Launched in 2003, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a national charity based on the Isle of Wight and in Largs on the Firth of Clyde in Scotland. The Trust gives young people in recovery from cancer the chance to rebuild their confidence through sailing. Embarking on its 12th year, the Trust has grown beyond every expectation into a national charity. Working with every young person Principal Treatment Centre and a growing number of Designated Units in the UK. Taking young people aged between 8-24 who are recovering from cancer on four-day sailing trips.
