Find out how you can take part in Seaside Walk Week and help struggling families

Thanks to Coral Rushmer from the Family Holiday Association for details of this charity walk that can really help make a difference to struggling families. Ed

The Family Holiday Association helps struggling families get a break – anything from a simple day out to a few days at the British seaside.

The families we support face some of the toughest challenges life can bring, from severe and sudden illness in the family to abuse or bereavement. We believe that spending quality time together as a family results in stronger, healthier and happier families and communities.

Seaside Walk Week
To mark our 40th Anniversary, we’re running Seaside Walk Week. The event features of a series of walks by the coast starting over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, and includes a walk at Freshwater Bay on Wednesday 27th May.

By taking part in the walk, you’ll be helping us help families who are struggling.

Choice of two walks
There is a choice of two walks. Both take place during the half term holiday on Wednesday 27th May.

The short walk starts at 1pm and finishes at approximately 3.30/4pm. The longer walk starts at noon and finishes at approximately 4pm.

Each walk costs just £15 per adult, £5 for children aged 5 to 16, and under-fives go free. The start point is at HF Holidays’ Freshwater Bay House, PO40 9RB

To book your place head over to the Seaside Walk Week Website to register and for more information.

About the Family Holiday Association
The Family Holiday Association helps struggling families get a break – anything from a simple day out to a few days at the British seaside.

The families we support face some of the toughest challenges life can bring, from severe and sudden illness in the family to abuse or bereavement.

We believe that spending quality time together as a family results in stronger, healthier and happier families and communities.

The families we support directly are referred to us by professionals in the community who are best placed to identify those who will benefit the most. This referral network includes teachers, social workers, health visitors and other charities. The evidence we gather from our work helps demonstrate the positive difference a simple break can make to a struggling family

Together with our partner organisations we’ve arranged guided walks for each day of Seaside Walk Week. We hope that you will join us for one or more of the following walks, as we explore the UK’s stunning coastline and raise vital funds.

How we help
Here are just a few real life stories where the charity has been able to help struggling families by providing them with a short break:

Rebecca was desperate to have one last holiday before her speech and mobility were lost forever due to serious illness. She wanted her kids, John and Sara, to have some good memories whilst she was well enough to move around. Her children deserved something positive to look forward to, not just the impending problems their mum was facing.

The McKenzie family had been rocked by the sudden death of mother Beth following a short illness last year.

Her husband Adam was trying to look after their two boys by himself as well as dealing with his own grief at the loss of his wife. Their support worker said

“They’ve been through so much and really needed a break and the chance to build some positive family time into their new situation.”

Gavin and Marie’s mother Sarah urgently needed to give them time away from their home where their now imprisoned father abused them all. This harrowing experience had blighted their young lives. Sarah was unable to afford a break to create some happy memories and begin the healing process, so the fear lingered on.
