Police name woman who died in road traffic collision

This in from police, in their own words. Our sincerest thoughts are with Mrs Twine’s family and friends. Ed

Joan Twine, 87, from Newport, was a front-seat passenger in a car travelling along Bowcombe Road towards Newport around 1.10pm, Sunday, May 24.

The silver Citroen C4, driven by her husband, was involved in a collision with a bicycle and two other cars heading in the opposite direction.

Joan suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital where she sadly passed away on Wednesday (May 27).

Her 89-year-old husband, who was driving the car, was uninjured.

The cyclist, a 28-year-old woman, suffered a broken wrist. The driver and passengers of the two cars, a grey Ford Focus and a brown Ford Mondeo, suffered less serious injuries.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw any of the vehicles driving prior to it.
