Adventuring family of 12 rescued by Coastguard (Two photo sets)

A family holidaying on the Isle of Wight found themselves stuck on a beach in Blackgang on Sunday evening.

The family had enjoyed their trip to Blackgang Chine so much, they wanted to further explore the area.

Finding Windy Corner, Niton, the group of twelve, with a wide age-range, walked down to the beach.

Lost
At around eight in the evening it became clear to the group that they weren’t going to be able to make it back up and concerned about their safety they did the right thing and called the emergency services. If they’d become stranded there, it’s thought they might have suffered from exposure overnight.

The group – made up of some babes-in-arms; toddlers; children various ages up to teenage and four adults – became tired and lost, easy in that area. One of the adults also hurt their leg further hampering progress.

Coastguard rescue
Isle of Wight Coastguard was mobilised leading to the family being safely rescued following three helicopter trips.
