Ryde Rowers head to Woolston Regatta

Thanks to Steve for this latest report from Ryde Rowing Club. Ed

There were some encouraging performances from Wightlink Ryde Rowing Club’s team that competed at the Woolston Regatta, hosted by the Southampton Rowing Club in Saturday (20th June), especially from the Boys J16 squad.

The Boy’s J16 Coxed Four of Ben Toms, Jacob Redstone, Joel Smith, Joe Groves and Cox Paddy Kearney rowed particularly well to finish in second place, less than a length behind the pre-race favourites from Itchen Imperial. Joel Smith and Jacob Redstone also did well in the J16 Single Sculls event finishing second and third in a strong field.

Other Ryde crews had less success – the Men’s Novice Four of Tom Kearney, Dom Douglas, Ben Toms and Joe Groves finishing fourth in their heat to just miss out on a place in the finals.

The Men’s Coastal Junior Pair of Will Ford and James Smith clashed with another crew just after the start, ruining their chances of a podium finish and Senior Sculler Mick Jenner finished in fifth place – and Novice sculler Dale Buckett suffered a similar fate.
