Google Stret View car in Newport - 23 June 2015 by Sofie Dyer

Google’s Street View car is back: Have you seen it?

Have you seen the Google StreetView car roaming the streets of the Isle of Wight again this week?

(See below for some sighting via Social Media)

On Monday OnTheWight had a photo sent in (Great pic Sophie Dyer!) which placed the latest visit from the search giant at the B&Q roundabout in Newport.

First visit
Just to show how much times have changed, back in 2010, when the first Google Street View of the Island was published (it had actually visited in 2009), we felt obliged to explain what Streetview was, such was the innocence of the world then.

Latest visit
The latest vehicle is a Vauxhall Astra Design Auto, smothered with stickers and a great big camera dome of the top, so you’re not going to miss it.

The registration plate of the one reported to us is MK14 NFA (Searching on Google we found out it was ‘first registered in Manchester between March 2014 and August 2014’ :) )

Google has been to the Isle of Wight at least twice – its original visit in 2009 and a follow-up visit in 2011, so 2015 is about time for a refresh.

Streetview - TimetravelTime travel
Did you know you can find versions of what the Streetview looked like at different times in the past?

When you’re in StreetView, in the top left of the screen is a sort-of clock. Click it and a box appears underneath with a slider. Moving it shows the view you’re a looking at, in previous years. Useful to watch changes over the years.
