Mount Snowdon

Blind Islander completes the Three Peaks Challenge

Thanks to Colin for this update. Ed

The mountains proved a challenge as we knew they would be.

Snowdon, although relatively easier than the other two was made more difficult with the 40mph winds and cold, because we were in the low cloud and rain. This took six hours and we covered nine miles in ascent and descent.

Colin McArthur three peaks challengeScarfell Pike was a steeper assent and two thirds of this was clambering over boulders and rocks, a challenge for blind hikers and their guides. this also was made more difficult with cloud and rain and took 9 hours, with a total coverage of six miles.

Finally the mighty Ben Nevis had more of the same but was a third higher than the other mountains. we had four seasons up this mountain, sunshine, mist, cloud and rain and snow. a total of ten and a half miles was covered in 12 hours.

The sense of achievement of the blind hikers was sky high and we are expecting to raise a total of £30,000 for RP Fighting Blindness.
