Knockout success for charity event

This in from the NHS, in their own words. Ed

Over 500 people joined Children’s Ward staff at Sandown Rugby Club on Sunday 2nd August to see 14 teams battle to be the overall champions. Held in glorious sunshine it is hoped that the day will have raised over £1,000 for the Bring Me Sunshine Appeal, which provides the extras for children on the ward such as toys, games and presents on special occasions.

Overall winners: Island Roads
The overall winners of the day were the Island Roads team. Denise Scott from Island Roads said:

“It was great event and we were glad to be able to play our part in helping to raise money for such a worthwhile cause – the fact that our team won was a complete bonus for all involved.”

All in aid of a good cause
Those involved in organising the day were Children’s Play Specialist Dionne Davies, Community Children’s Nurse Dave Owen, Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner Michele Kaiser, the Paediatric Team at St. Mary’s Hospital, Sandown and Shanklin Rugby Club, Island Roads and Southern Water.

Matt Powell, Charge Nurse on the Children’s Ward said:

“This was a great day and a lot of fun was had by everyone, all in aid of a good cause. I know from experience how much the little extras we provide from the Bring Me Sunshine Appeal mean to the Children on the Ward and everyone’s efforts on the day are much appreciated. This was a thoroughly fun event involving climbing over a variety of inflatables, wearing silly costumes, climbing through foam pits and transferring water by buckets and drainpipes, everyone got drenched but soon dried out in the fantastic weather.”

Shaun Stacey, Chief Operating Officer for Isle of Wight NHS Trust said:

“We have a fantastic team on the Children’s Ward. Their results from the CQC inspection last year were good for every aspect of care and management. This event shows how the Paediatric team can have fun, be part of our community and raise money for kids who really need some extra support when they’re poorly.”
