Former councillor found guilty after shooting girlfriend in the head (Updated)

A former Calbourne Parish councillor has today (Monday) been found guilty of “violence and weapons charges” according to reports.

Jonathan Kovacik (58) was accused of shooting his 21 year old girlfriend, Rosalynde Pitcher, with an air pistol and then ‘pistol whipping’ her with it in December last year.

The case against Mr Kovacik has been heard by Portsmouth Crown Court over the last week and sentencing is expected tomorrow (Tuesday).

Shot in the head
According to reports, the attack took place in December 2014 after the couple had been dating for three months. Mr Kovacik arrived at Ms Pitcher’s flat in Shanklin on 21st December and told her he only had “a few months to live”.

However he was armed with an air pistol, which according to reports he held to her head before shooting the 21 year old, and then hit her with the gun’s handle.

Offer of £50,000
The court heard that Kovacik had given Ms Pitcher £6,000 towards breast enlargement from an A to a D cup, because they were “too small and she didn’t like them”.

Kovacik’s defence, Richard Onslow, also claimed he’d offered her £50,000 to give up “drugs, alcohol and the work”, but she denied this and said the money was being offered in order for her to get pregnant with him.

According to reports, Kovacik claimed he had no memory of the attack and was suffering from temporary insanity. He’d told the police he wanted to be shot in a ‘stand-off’ with them in Cowes.

Found guilty at Crown Court
Kovacik denied four charges, including wounding with intent, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and having an article with a blade or point, but was today found guilty.

Our thoughts are with Ms Pitcher, who clearly sounds as though she was put through a traumatic experience last year, as well as having to relive it during the court case.

Update 25.8.15
According to the County Press court reporter, Kovacik has been jailed for 21 months.
