Primary school starts the term with latest Ofsted report

St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School in Newport returns to school this week to some good news from the latest Ofsted report.

The school was placed in Special Measures in January 2015. Although the findings were questioned by the Isle of Wight Council, in March, Ofsted said they were unhappy with the school’s ‘raising achievement plan’.

Today’s update is a little more promising, Ofsted say

  • The school is making reasonable progress towards the removal of special measures.
  • The school may appoint one newly qualified teacher before the next monitoring inspection who must be mentored by a member of staff from the federated school.
