Totland seawall path: Hundreds of people captured on film from the skies

It’s thought that 1,000 people turned out yesterday afternoon for the opening of the new Totland Seawall path.

The area was subject to a landslide in December 2012 forcing the footpath that linked Totland to Colwell Bay to be closed. The Isle of Wight Executive agreed last year to fund the works up to £200,000 to enable the two areas to be linked again.

Following stirling work by all involved, the project was completed on time and to budget. The grand opening saw residents gather at The Waterfront Inn and walk along the seawall for the official opening ceremony.

Doing the honours
The ribbon was cut by five year old Emily Dack, also from Totland, who’d handed in a resident’s petition to get the damaged seawall section opened again.

Music was provided by FaT Samba band, as well as the Brighstone Barnacles.

Well done to everyone involved, particularly Helen Wood who led the campaign to see the seawall path reopened and Luke Ellison who led the project on behalf of the council, out on site, rather than from behind a desk.
