Turner’s Tiger Talk sparks Isle of Wight creativity

Yesterday’s tiger talk in Parliament gave many Islanders and others around the nation a good laugh. People seemed to take the approach of if you didn’t laugh, you’d have to be crying.

Andrew Turner’s wasted opportunity in front of the nation’s media at Prime Minister’s Questions, unlocked the creativity that Islanders have inside them.

From videos to poetry, graphic manipulation to commercial bandwagoning, the Island had it all.

We’ve gathered together some of our favourites:

The chaps/chapettes over at @IWCanDepress couldn’t stop thinking about tigers yesterday …..

I wandered lonely as a tiger in Belgium
The poets on the Island were also bursting with inspiration.

Mike Starke left this adapted poem on our article
(With apologies to the poet William Blake)

Tiger, tiger, burning bright,
Destined for the Isle of Wight,
What on earth was our MP
Doing when he championed thee?

Tiger, tiger, burning bright,
Marvel at A.Turner’s plight;
Trains and schools, plus roadworks, too,
All ignored… to help a zoo!

King Stammers also had Blake on his mind. He wrote #VoteForTheTiger,

“Tiger Tiger Burning bright,
Can’t get to the Isle of Wight.
The issues of a local zoo
Has cluttered up this #PMQ”

John Luckett had similar thinking …

Tiger Tiger Burning Bright,
Our MP is talking Sh*te,
He blew it at the PMQs,
It’s enough to make you turn to booze!

And there’s more
Other Islanders also put their creative skills to the test. Anthony Joyce came up with this cute picture ….

Twitter friend @onioki found some scary tiger images ….

Tiger or Turner?
Over on Facebook, Linda Bassett, who runs the Isle of Wight Community Information Page started a survey. She was asking Islanders whether they’d like Simi the Tiger or Andrew Turner for Isle of Wight MP?

Linda tells us that 96% of the votes went in favour of Simi the Tiger.

Talking about da money
Finally, one never to miss a commercial opportunity, Gary Hall from Plaza Ices chipped in with this …

If we’ve missed anything, let us know.
