A busy week of running for the Ryde Harriers

Thanks to Tom for this latest report from the Ryde Harriers. Ed

Whilst a large part of the Island running community were careering up and down the hills of Ventnor for the annual IW Fell Race Series, five Ryde Harriers made their way over the Solent to take part in the Perform 5 Mile Race. Starting and finishing at the Rose Bowl the course allowed for some fast times. First home for the club was Andy Lewis in 35:36.

Next came Peter Jolliffe in 38:16, showing his hard training of the last few months has paid dividends. He was followed by Bridget Lewis is 40:47 and Karen Collett in 41:43. The group was completed by John Randles who finished in 42:34.

On the same weekend Andrew McEwan made his debut as a Harrier in the Solent Half Marathon. He posted an excellent time of 1:27:58 for the scenic course which is race two of the Hants Road Race League.

The most recent Ryde Harriers club night saw the start of the 2015/16 winter series with a five mile road race. Les Cupis cruised to victory in 33:38 take the men’s points whilst Sarah Blackwell and Julie King tied the women’s race very sportingly in 37:38.

This weekend sees the 59th running of the IW Marathon from IW Community Club in Cowes. Taking in the quieter roads and lanes of West Wight, this historic race is also the Police National Marathon Championships this year. Entries are accepted on the day with more information via the website.
