Mr & Mrs Fisher married in new Seaclose wedding room

The new wedding room at the Isle of Wight Council’s Seaclose Register Office hosted its first wedding on Friday 9 October, at 3pm, when Paul Fisher married Theresa Scollick.

The couple’s special day was made all the more perfect by the surprise arrival the bride’s father to walk her down the aisle; he’d been in hospital and wasn’t expected to be well enough to attend.

Mr and Mrs Fisher first met when they worked together in a factory in Liphook, Hampshire, many years ago. They’ve been a couple for the past 11 months. The Fisher’s will honeymoon in the New Year, but have yet to decide on a destination.

The new Mrs Fisher, said:

“We’re very proud to be the first couple to be married in this new room. It’s a lovely, very personal setting; the perfect place to begin our married lives together. We have had a wonderful day and would like to thank the Registrars team for their part in making our wedding day so special.”

Cream and navy colour scheme
The wedding room has been recently refurbished to a cream and navy colour scheme with proper banquet chairs and a simple voile window panel. The capacity of the room is 20 people to include two registrars, bride and groom and 16 guests.

Councillor Steve Stubbings, Executive Member with responsibility for Registrars services, said:

“Our Registrars provide a wonderful service at licensed premises Island-wide, but it was important for us to enable our quality wedding service to be delivered within an appropriate Register Office environment; somewhere people can feel proud to be married. The room is splendid.”

Janice Lord, Superintendent Registrar, said:

“Every wedding is special, but especially this first one in our new wedding room. The room is light, airy and very pleasant, while protecting that sense of intimacy that each wedding warrants.”
