Phill Jupitus donates artwork to the second Ventnor Skatepark Big Art Auction

There is just over a week to go until the launch of the second Big Art Auction, aimed to raise funds for the exciting and ambitious Ventnor Skatepark project.

Fantastic response from artists
If you’ve been following the updates on Facebook, you’ll know that following the success of the first auction earlier in the year, the response from artists on the Island and across the UK has once again been fantastic.

Organiser Zoe Thompson told OnTheWight,

“It has been amazing to get such positive feedback from artists who have no connection with the Island, but who’ve looked into the skate park project and seen the value in it, and so have kindly donated work.

“We’ve also been stunned by the generosity of the artists who donated work previously and have done so again, without even being asked. Not only will this help raise funds, but it will also help us to demonstrate the scale of the support we have for the future of the skate park, which will help significantly when we come to make grant applications next year.”

You can expect to see works of art from the likes of Craig Davison, The Pumpkin Tide, T.WAT, Ed Syder, Carne Griffiths, Howard Hardiman to name just a few. To find out more about the artists taking part, head over to the Event Page on Facebook.

Artwork from Phill Jupitus
Well known comedian/actor, Phill Jupitus is amongst those who have offered to donate a piece of work to the auction.

Zoe told us,

“I was delighted to receive an email from Phill Jupitus, who will be creating a piece for the auction. The comedian/actor was born on the Island, people may not know that he has been a keen cartoonist throughout his life, receiving commissions from The Times, Beano and The Guardian.

“He has more recently incorporated his interest in art into his live shows, for example at the Edinburgh Fringe, so it’s great that he is involved.”

See the work at launch event
You’ll be able to see all artwork donated to the auction by heading to Ventnor Exchange on Saturday 7th November from 7.30pm.

Zoe finished by saying,

“It’ll be a great opportunity to find out more about the skatepark project, join up as a member, and also see the very first draft design details, so it is pretty exciting, and we hope people will come down and stay for a drink, enjoy the tunes from local DJ Kaftan and make an evening of it.”

All information about the auction can be found on the Facebook events page, with the auction site going live at 9pm 7th November until 28th midnight on the 28th November at www.thebigartauction.com

With a week to go, we are still accepting art work – contact Zoe on 07598133214 if you would like to donate and be involved.
