Women born in the 1950s call for fairer state pension arrangements

An online petition campaigning for “fair transitional state pension arrangements for women born in the 1950s” is gathering pace.

The campaign has been spearheaded by five women through the action group, Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI).

An online petition has so far attracted over 33,000 votes from around the country.

You can follow the campaign on Facebook and sign the petition on the Government Website

It reads,

The Government must make fair transitional arrangements for all women born on or after 6th April 1951 who have unfairly borne the burden of the increase to the State Pension Age (SPA). Hundreds of thousands of women have had significant changes imposed on them with a lack of appropriate notification

The 1995 Conservative Government’s Pension Act included plans to increase women’s SPA to 65, the same as men’s. Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI), agree with equalisation, but don’t agree with the unfair way the changes were implemented – with little/no personal notice (1995/2011 Pension Acts), faster than promised (2011 Pension Act), and no time to make alternative plans. Retirement plans have been shattered with devastating consequences.

Legal fund
There appears to be a lot of support for the campaign, with the group raising a whopping £6,000 in just a matter of day via Crowdjustice (the first litigation crowdfunding platform in the UK).

They’re in the process of establishing if they have a legal case to challenge the Government in respect of little or no notification of the changes to the SPA in 1995 and 2011.
