Rugby: Ventnor defeat Fleet by 64-0

Thanks to Nolan for sharing this latest rugby report from Ventnor RFC. Ed

Ventnor 1st XV 64-0 Aldershot & Fleet 1st XV
On possibly one of the wettest, windiest days of the season. Ventnor were able to keep a clean sheet and put big points on the travelling Aldershot & Fleet team.

The home side started well and even under terrible conditions managed to keep control and handle well for Justinas Urbonas to start the scoring and his first try for Ventnor.

After this the floodgates would open. Sam lines getting the next and somehow even managing to step players when others were struggling to just to stay on their feet with wet conditions. Fergus Kenny took up kicking duties this week and managed to convert a number of them. Further tries in the first half with two from Jake Babington. As well as another from Lines, and one from James Pemberton all before the break.

Sticking to game plan
The second half saw Aldershot & Fleet step up their game and try and stem the flow of points being conceded. This was achieved for a while but Ventnor sticking to their own game plan and still in worsening weather conditions were able to control the game in all areas of he park. With the forwards winning the scrums and at the break downs.

Which gave the backs a platform to build on. A&F were only able to keep Ventnor out for a time before they started scoring again, this time with half time substitute Sam Pickard scoring twice, Ed Blake and James Morley both sliding over the line and getting their names on the score sheet. The final try would come from Coach Damien Marriott after Lines avoided getting a hatrick and pass to Babington who after running over the try line would also avoid the same and pass for Marriott to touch down.

Great team effort
A great team effort and hopefully a return to winning ways for a determined Ventnor side.

A.J. Wells Man Of The Match: Fergus Kenny who controlled the game at 10 and excellent conversion rate in the conditions.
Ventnor Haven Cod Eye Of The Day: Jake Babington for Jug avoidance on more than one occasion.
