Confidence lost through MS regained with Cowes Sailability

Thanks to Patrick for this latest news from Cowes Sailability. Ed

Andy Barton, under instruction from Tim Griffin, of Griffin Marine Services, uses the specially designed dual helm on Cowes Sailability’s Dougal. Andy is seen above helming the boat up the river Medina from Cowes.

Andy was diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS ten years ago, which affected his balance to the extent that he is no longer able to walk and has to use a power chair. His condition eroded his self-belief and confidence in social interaction.

Andy: “Restored my belief in myself”
Andy comments,

“This achievement, in gaining my PBII with Cowes Sailabilty, has been the most beneficial skill that I have learned since I moved here to the Isle of Wight. Gaining this new discipline has restored my belief in myself.

“I feel that I can now contribute towards a meaningful activity on this fabulous island.”

Cowes Sailability Club provides recreational boating for people with disabilities on the Isle of Wight.
