Butter Vikings: Isle of Wight bound because our cream is so good (updated)

A Swedish couple, now living in Ventnor, are bringing their highly-regarded butter-making business from Sweden to the Isle of Wight – because the Island’s cream is so amazing.

They’re launching a crowd-funding campaign to help them move.

The ButterVikings
For the past eight years, Maria and Patrik Johansson (aka ButterVikings) have been making butter in Sweden and supplying top restaurants across Europe.

Their butter has been judged so highly, they’ve had the honor of supplying the “world’s best restaurant” (as voted three times by Restaurant Magazine), Noma in Copenhagen for the last five years.

“Best butter ever!”
Speaking about Patrik’s butter, Noma’s head chef said,

“Everything he makes is unique. He tries so much stuff and never presents it before it is perfect.”

Maria and Patrik’s butter has also been described by Allan Jenkins, Editor of the Observer Food Monthly as,

“Best butter ever!”

The “cream on Isle of Wight is sensational”
The story of Maria and Patrik’s butter-making is fascinating. They make a variety of butter types, but what sets them apart from others is the process they use. Patrik has read 500 scientific papers on butter production.

They make their butter from cultured cream, a traditional process that’s been used for 8,000 years. However, instead of the three-second churning that industrial butter is subjected to, their butter is churned for three days.

They’ve chosen to set up the dairy here on the Isle of Wight, because,

“Once we had tasted the local cream there was no turning back, the cream on Isle of Wight is sensational and we simply have to stay here and make butter with it!”

Help to buy equipment
In their crowd-funding campaign, Maria and Patrik say,

“We have found the location for the new dairy and we have lots of customers waiting for us to deliver the butter but we need your help in getting the necessary equipment for the dairy and to rebuild some of the existing dairy.

“We will rent space in the Rew Valley dairy on the Isle of Wight where they produce wonderful milk and cream.

“In return for helping us, you will get our eternal gratitude and of course you will get to choose from some nice rewards. Rewards that you will not be able to get anywhere else.”

Show your support
We love what Maria and Patrik are doing here and hope that readers will head over to their crowd-funding page to check out the rewards for donations.

In the meantime, pop on your headphones and watch to their intro video.

Update:
The Butter Vikings were successful in their bid and are producing a fantastic range of butters on the Isle of Wight – they supply restaurants on and off the Island.
