Mark Baseby returns to Isle of Wight speedway with the Wightlink Warriors

Thanks to Bryn for this latest news from Island Speedway. Ed

Former Islander Mark Baseby is set to return to the Isle of Wight with the Wightlink Warriors and further strengthen their bid for 2016 National League honours.

Mark, now aged 27, last rode on the Island in 2012 and has always been popular both on and off the track particularly with our fans at Smallbrook and it has been a similar story at other clubs he’s ridden for including Coventry this year.

He’ll certainly be eager to start next season in similar fashion to where he finished this year’s one, a 2015 season that culminated in him winning the Silver Ski Holidays Cup individual event at the home of our first round KO Cup opponents Kent, with him relegating home riders Ben Morley, Aaron Baseby (his younger brother) and Danny Ayres to the minor positions in the final.

Speaking of his return to the Isle of Wight to race for the Warriors in 2016 he said,

“I am delighted to announce my return to the Island under the new promotion of Barry Bishop and Martin Widman.

“It’s a track that I’ve always enjoyed racing on as it is fair to say I am not the best trapper in the business, but the big wide open spaces of Smallbrook gives us a chance to have a right good go!

“I really like the look of the team for Brendan (Johnson) is a bit like myself returning home, James Cockle will score points everywhere we go, and I’m really good friends with Matt Saul, so I’m looking forward to being in the same team and helping him in his first full year in League racing.

“So all in all, an exciting year ahead and now it’s time to start preparing in the workshop to make sure that I’m fully ready for our first meeting in the spring.”

Talking about Mark’s return to Smallbrook Wightlink Warriors Commercial Director Barry Bishop said,

“Martin and I are delighted to see Mark back at Smallbrook.

“He, Brendan and James have a wealth of knowledge to help the team quickly get to grips at home and away and we look forward to watching our team gel together.

“Everyone knows that Mark always provides great entertainment for fans and our big track suits his riding style. We cannot wait to watch him blasting around Smallbrook so welcome to the Warriors Mark.”

Another little reminder
And that’s not to forget the Celebration Party Night being held in the Premier Lounge at the stadium on December 29th from 7pm onwards, with tickets costing just £5 with a disco provided by Party DJ sponsor, Phil Lynch of Cloud 2 Entertainments. With hot food available as well as liquid refreshment and all the proceeds going to the air fence, riders fuel and tyre fund, it promises to be a great evening to meet the promotion and hopefully many of the 2016 Wightlink Warriors riders.

Finally our thanks go out once again to all our Wightlink Warrior media outlets for the coverage you have provided us with so far (and long may that continue!) and to conclude, as it’s a special time of year, a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year to you all!
