Latest Isle of Wight JSA claimant numbers released

Figures published by the Office for National Statistics show that 1,537 people in the Isle of Wight area were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) during November 2015.

The figures show a rise of 212 since October 2015, which saw 1,325 JSA claimants, and a fall of 271 from November 2014 (1,808).

Of the current total, 995 applicants were male (up 135 on last month, down 190 on this time last year) and 542 were female, (up 77 on last month, down 81 on this time last year).

That means 1.9% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1% more than the rest of the South East (0.9%), and 0.4% more than the whole of the UK (1.5%).
