Thanks to Bryn for this latest speedway news. Ed

It was party time at Smallbrook
It was most certainly party time in the Premier Lounge at Smallbrook stadium on Tuesday of last week as the Wightlink Warriors management, riders and supporters celebrated the forthcoming return of the sport to the Isle of Wight after a two season absence.

New skipper Brendan Johnson, James Cockle, Tyler Govier and George Piper all put pen to paper on 2016 contracts, as did budding superstar of the future, Charlie Luckman (pictured above) who signed up to be the club’s first team mascot and all expressed their delight at being part of the new set up in post signing interviews.

A great night out was enjoyed by all and close on £500 was raised for the Wightlink Warriors tyre and fuel fund.

Tim Ellis Building Services to give track a new look
Tim Ellis Building Services is to provide the 2016 Track Warriors with their protective overalls for the season. The building company focuses on general property maintenance, is based locally on the Isle of Wight, and specialises in kitchens and bathrooms.

Tim Ellis, proprietor, said,

“It’s brilliant that the speedway is returning to the Isle of Wight after closing two years ago. We were big fans of the team before and loved attending the meetings. Now I have witnessed what we all thought impossible – the phoenix rising from the ashes is just great news for the Island and Island sport! The speedways return is extremely positive news for the economy, and the way in which Martin and Barry are taking the sport to the community is already apparent. Playing my part in their return is almost a big a thrill for me as it will be for tapes up for the first meeting. I would like to wish all the Warriors a great season in 2016.”

Our Commercial Director Barry Bishop said,

“Having Tim on board with the Warriors is another success story for the whole club. Tim’s involvement has come as a result of Colin Whitlock’s discussions with him and it really pleases me to know that Team Warrior is working how Martin Widman and I envisioned it should as a team. We’re grateful that Tim will be supplying our track staff volunteers with protective overalls so the Track Warriors will look absolutely tip top from day one for our proud moment when the racing gets underway. To have another local sponsor shows our message is getting out there as we bring the Wightlink Warriors to the community and promote how we work together. I am thrilled that Tim has joined band of backers and now we cannot wait to get started.”

Team Warrior is next due in action on the weekend of the 15th to 17th January with objective being to ensure that the racing track itself is 100% ready for the official inspection by the Sports authorities.
