Story of ‘Tenacious’ Atlantic sailing challenge shared at WI get together

Thanks to Judith for this latest report from the Appley WI. Ed

After ‘Jerusalem’ was sung and the minutes were accepted as a true record, Barty the guide dog was wished a speedy recovery.

Then January’s meeting continued the recent tradition of hearing nautical adventures!

Sailing the Atlantic
Pam Fenna, President, described sailing the Atlantic on the tall ship ‘Tenacious’ (Jubilee Sailing Trust), which has an able bodied and disabled crew.

Pam’s connection began when her daughter helped build the vessel which is specifically designed to enable everyone to contribute; there are Braille notices, lifts and hoists.

There are fifty crew, ten of whom are permanent. Pam’s voyage was from Gran Canaria to St. Lucia and involved assisting a yacht with a lost rudder and other adventures which awed and entertained the members.

Monthly comps
The competition was won by Margaret Rogers who wished ‘Happy New Year’ in flags.

The best bloom was a beautiful, delicate, red rose brought by Pam Fenna.

New members welcome
Appley WI would be delighted to welcome new members to February’s meeting, which includes a talk and wine tasting.

It takes place on the second Thursday of the month at St John’s Church Hall, High Park Road, Ryde.
