Eurosceptic Isle of Wight MP helps coordinate activists

Andrew Turner, the Island’s MP last weekend attended the launch of the cross-party Grassroots Out (GO) campaign.

He joined other Eurosceptic MPs who will be working to help co-ordinate activists in their local areas to work for a Leave vote in the forthcoming referendum on British membership of the EU. Speakers at the event included the Rt Hon Dr Liam Fox MP (Conservative), Kate Hoey MP (Labour) and Nigel Farage (UKIP).

Mr Turner said:

“I have been a euro-sceptic all my adult life, but more and more British people are coming to the conclusion that our membership of the EU is damaging, costly, and has led to the loss of our sovereignty. When the Prime Minister has to go cap-in-hand to other countries asking if we can reform our welfare laws you have got to realise that something is seriously wrong. We must be an independent sovereign nation again.

“The national launch of the GO Campaign was dynamic and exciting. People sometimes think that MPs of different parties cannot work together – but there are frequently cross-party alliances in Parliament when we agree on important issues – and there is no bigger issue than our future relationship with the EU. I am meeting national organisers of the campaign this week to talk about how we can ensure that GO reaches out to people on the Isle of Wight who want us to leave the EU.

“You do not have to be interested in politics or belong to any political party to become a part of the GO campaign. This campaign is exactly what it says on the tin – it will be a Grassroots Campaign – I am simply working to get it going.”
