Eastern Yar peaking at highest level this winter say Environment Agency

The Environment Agency remind Islander that a Flood Alert remains in force for the Eastern Yar.

Although the warning for Alverstone and Langbridge has been lifted, the warning of flooding remains in place for tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.

Levels in the upper river are falling but remain high. Levels at Sandown will continue to rise for the rest of the day and into this evening as upstream flows move down the river. There will be extensive out of bank flooding, affecting, roads, cycle tracks and caravan parks along the whole valley and this will be the highest the Eastern Yar has been so far this winter season.

Further heavy rain is forecast on Friday night and into Saturday and so continued flood impacts are expected until Monday.
