The Isle of Wight council have today (Friday) issued their latest update on the devastating Cowes fire that took hold of several industrial units in Medina Village in Cowes on Monday.

A spokesperson for the council said,

“Whist investigations are still being completed, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service identified at an early stage that this was an accidental fire.

“The fire occurred during vehicle repairs in a car repair workshop and spread quickly to adjoining buildings due to the involvement of flammable liquids.”

Actions praised
They went on to say,

“We would also reiterate to all businesses the importance of ensuring that they have suitable fire procedures in place and that staff are trained to use provided extinguishers if required, as well as robust business continuity plans.”

The investigation report is expected to be available next week.
