Artist Mary Flynn, who lives in Newport, Isle of Wight has installed outdoors and on public display her artwork, ‘Flower Screen: 2105’, at the Renal Dialysis Unit entrance, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Newport, Isle of Wight.
‘Flower Screen’ is made from salvaged materials, including circular plastic forms salvaged from the shore and coastline along with recycled domestic products such as CD’s and brightly coloured and distinctive plastic coated wire.
Inspired at Osborne
Inspiration to make the artwork came when Mary saw a ceremonial bouquet of artificial flowers in the museum at the Swiss Cottage, Osborne House, East Cowes, fashioned in silver and gold tinsel, coloured silks and beads from Malta. These wired flowers were made into a complex arrangement using a now practically extinct craft technique.
‘Flower Screen’ was first displayed in the walled Garden at Osborne House in autumn 2015 and has now transferred to St. Mary’s until Spring 2016.
Free public display
The artwork is on continuous free public display. The Renal Dialysis Unit is located at the North Hospital. Public Parking is also at the North Hospital site. Consult site map on arrival.
