Isle of Wight sees a rise in number of JSA claimants

Figures published by the Office for National Statistics show that 1,780 people in the Isle of Wight area were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) during February 2016.

The figures show a rise of 73 since January 2016, when there were 1,707 JSA claimants, and a decrease of 260 from February 2015 (2,040 claimants).

Of this month’s total amount, 1,180 applicants were male and 600 female.

That means 2.2% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1.1% more than the rest of the South East (1.1%), and 0.3% more than the whole of the UK (1.9%).
