Man from Newport arrested on suspicion of Ventnor mugging (updated)

Police confirm they have arrested a man on suspicion of robbery following the mugging of a man in his eighties on Friday morning last week.

The incident took place outside Tesco Express after the Ventnor man withdrew his pension money from the cash point.

On Monday evening, police arrested a 34 year old man from Carisbrooke on suspicion of the robbery and will be appearing at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Wednesday).

Community collections
Community collections for the victim were set up last week after news of the robbery was revealed.

Anyone wanting to make a donation can drop off at Ventnor’s Tesco or Co-op, as well as the Mill Bay pub on the Esplanade until 3pm today (Wednesday).

Islanders can also drop off any donations at the County Press office and shop in Pyle Street, Newport, but donations must put in an envelope marked ‘community appeal’.
