To help meet the noise and disruption concerns of local residents at St Helens, new arrangements for the popular and successful Sunday car boot sales have been agreed between the Isle of Wight Council and event organisers.

Officers from the council met with members of the organising association to offer advice and support on how to maintain their car boot sales while adjusting the start time to 9am, and requiring traders not to arrive before 8am, starting from this Sunday (1 May).

Under the new arrangements, agreed under the amenity land hire licence for the site at St Helens Green, the use of or entry onto the ‘green’ will not be permitted before the new times. Previously some traders had been arriving far earlier, leading to local concerns over noise.

Traders are also being advised that arriving before 8am will jeopardise the future of the sales.
