Model Village gardens now recognised by Royal Horticultural Society

Penny shares this good news from Godshill Model Village. Ed

The Model Village in Godshill has been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) as a Partner Garden.

As the only one on the Island we are thrilled to be supporting the crucial work of the RHS by offering free admission to RHS members under this scheme.

Among good company
All of the 195 Partner Gardens around the country offer inspiration to keen gardeners through high standards of design and/or planting.

Many are well known like the Lost Gardens of Heligan or Blenheim Palace and some less so, resulting in a stimulating mix of styles that visitors should find interesting throughout the gardening year. We are in great company!

30 years in the making
A Model Village is an unexpected place to find such an ornate garden. Over the last 30 years this family run business has built a collection of conifers and shrubs that are the envy of many.

Our fantastic gardener Fred Green (yes that really is his name!) has coaxed, pruned and perfected this display.

Over 3,000 specimens
Our conifer and shrub collection now totals over 3,000 specimens, many of which have been carefully pruned using the niwaki (Japanese descriptive term for highly sculpted trees) approach.

As with the Japanese tradition we have concentrated on using a chosen range of trees sculpting them individually, for maximum effect, to create the right atmosphere to offset the models.
