Michael Lane, Police and Crime Commissioner, said:

“After an excellent day at the Isle of Wight County Show on Sunday, I was delighted to have the opportunity to return, open the workshop, and meet with a range of key partners.

“I especially appreciated the chance to meet with practitioners who work on the Island dealing with Hate Crime. Although the numbers of reported hates crimes here are small, with only 94 Hate Crimes recorded between 1 April 2015 and the 31 March 2016, it is an intolerable crime which perpetrators should not and must not get away with.

“My aim on the Island, as with the rest of Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton is to give victims the confidence to report Hate Crime and improve reporting of this serious issue to bring perpetrators to justice swiftly.”
