A 40 foot yacht that suffered a series of mishaps in mid-Solent today was eventually towed to Cowes by the local RNLI lifeboat.

The Singularity, with three men from the Midlands on board, told Solent Coastguards that its engine had overheated near East Lepe Buoy and its anchor was dragging.

When the lifeboat arrived on the scene crew member Andrea Vaughan was put on board; several attempts to recover the anchor proved unsuccessful and lifeboat helm Mark Harker decided it should be cut free.

The yacht was then towed to Trinity Landing.
