What do you do during a zombie apocalypse? Watch Burlesque of course

Rachel Rocks shares this latest review, with photography by ASM Photography. Ed

There was a zombie apocalypse last Saturday night (9th July) as the end of the world was celebrated with burlesque, drag, spoken word, music and comedy.

Warning signs informing of the ‘no go area’ and to ‘avoid the green slime’ proved no deterrent as The Wight Rock Bar was packed out.

The innovative and professional event, organised by Carmen Angelique and expertly hosted by Sugar the Rim involved the audience from the start. The stage was eerily lit in green and Radio 4 was broadcasting intermittently crackling and cutting out, giving government warnings that the Island had been declared a no go zone with looting and cannibalism.

Little did the audience know they were amongst the only survivors because “glitter detracts radiation, the drag queens have been predicting it for years.”

Gorelesque burlesque
The Island’s very own gorelesque, burlesque performer Ravenna Grimm took to the stage dressed as Lara Croft, using her glowstick for light in the Apocalyptic wasteland. She found a treasure chest and with money being worthless now, she threw away the golden coins, but kept the glitter balls.

Tiny Ravenna is small but feisty with exquisite curves. As she wriggled out of her gun holster, she teasingly let it rest under her curvaceous bottom.

She then kicked off her shorts, snapped her suspenders and released her long black ponytail so her hair draped on her shoulders. She then danced out of her black vest top flashing her sparkly pasties to a lucky few who seemed very happy that the end of the world was nigh!

Steampunk vision
There was a change in atmosphere as scary clown music began to play and Miss Pin Up UK quarter finalist Sofia La Rose danced onto the stage.

A steampunk vision in black and purple feathers, wearing a top hat, eccentrically dramatic purple cheeked make up and divine feather boa, corset and tutu. With her back combed hair and manic smile, she’s a sexy nightmare!

She seductively shimmied, teased and undressed to reveal her incredible Rubenesque figure to cheers of delight from the crowd.

Music and spoken word
Next up were the delightfully quirky pianist/vocalist Laura Clare Reid and spoken word performer Doris Doolally.

Their beautifully poignant spoken love song about breaking up with Europe, accompanied to “Don’t they know it’s the end of the world” was sadly fitting at the zombie apocalypse.

Reid also sung solo showing she was a gifted lyricist, pianist and singer. Her ode to Tinder set to Alanis Morisette’s ‘Ironic’ was hilarious.

She ended her set with Annie Lennox’s ‘No more I love yous’ which showcased her sweet, enchanting voice and had everyone singing along.

Carmen Angelique
Event organiser, the spell bindingly enthralling Carmen Angelique, gracefully took to the stage wearing a demure pink dress. The elegantly presented prim and proper “girl who’s never been kissed” got deliciously saucier as she coquettishly removed her gloves with her teeth with a seductive glint in her eye.

With her dress removed, beautiful Carmen looked a striking femme fatale in her black PVC corset bustier with whip!

Spanking her curvaceous bottom, she writhed on her chair and crawled across the floor, finally unzipping her corset to reveal her delectably voluptuous bosoms and sparkly silver pasties.

“It’s alive!!!!”
Mesmerising Count Addiction was a striking drag artist painted from head to toe in silver and wearing a medical gown and voluminous silver afro.

The audience transfixed by his dynamic stage make up, zombified eyes and dramatic presence. His choreography was robotic, yet fluid as the music announced his condition “runs in the family” as he passionately fell to his knees, threw up zombie style and ripped out his silver internal organs! Seriously surreal!

And more ….
Sugar and Spice performed expertly choreographed routines in the tiny floor space, there was cheeky, observational comedy from Bobbin Dixon and more beautiful burlesque from Ravenna Grimm and Carmen Angelique.

This amazing Lunar Hex was brought to a dramatic and shocking conclusion. Everyone was happily singing along to “I will survive” with hosts Sugar the Rim, when all of a sudden, the comperes unexpectedly turned cannibalistic on each other with blood and gore aplenty!

What an incredibly fun and surreal way to enjoy the end of the world!
