Wroxall blaze: Fire fighters damping down (aerial video)

Huge praise to the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue crews who yesterday afternoon, and evening, tackled a huge blaze at the old castle works on Castle Road in Wroxall. Well done also to police, who ably assisted.

This morning (Thursday) there is just one fire pump still on the scene, damping down and monitoring the site for hot-spots. Thankfully no one is understood to have been injured.

Drone support ‘a first’
Darren Vaughan from WightDrone was asked by the Fire & Rescue Service to assist them with this incident yesterday.

He believes this is the first time a drone has been requested to help deal with a fire incident. Darren is fully registered (with the Civil Aviation Authority) commercial drone pilot.

Richard Manser from SafeSite IOW was also on the scene and shared this aerial drone video and the headline image.

Our thoughts are with those who have lost so much in the fire.
